China’s textile and clothing exports resume rapid growth

Since the middle and late May, the epidemic situation in the main textile and clothing producing areas has gradually improved. With the help of the stable foreign trade policy, all localities have actively promoted the resumption of work and production and opened up the logistics supply chain. Under the condition of stable external demand, the export volume blocked in the early stage was fully released, driving the textile and clothing export to resume rapid growth in the current month. According to the data released by the General Administration of Customs on June 9, in dollar terms, the textile and clothing export in May increased by 20.36% year-on-year and 24% month on month, both higher than the national trade in goods. Among them, clothing recovered faster, with exports increasing by 24.93% and 34.12% respectively on the same and month on month basis.

Textile and clothing exports are calculated in RMB: from January to may 2022, textile and clothing exports totaled 797.47 billion yuan, an increase of 9.06% over the same period last year (the same below), including textile exports of 400.72 billion yuan, an increase of 10.01%, and clothing exports of 396.75 billion yuan, an increase of 8.12%.

In May, textile and clothing exports reached 187.2 billion yuan, an increase of 18.38% and 24.54% month on month. Among them, textile exports reached 89.84 billion yuan, an increase of 13.97% and 15.03% month on month. Clothing exports reached 97.36 billion yuan, an increase of 22.76% and 34.83% month on month.

Textile and clothing exports in US dollars: from January to may 2022, the cumulative export of textile and clothing was US $125.067 billion, an increase of 11.18%, of which textile export was US $62.851 billion, an increase of 12.14%, and clothing export was US $62.216 billion, an increase of 10.22%.

In May, the export of textiles and clothing reached US $29.227 billion, an increase of 20.36% and 23.89% month on month. Among them, the export of textiles reached US $14.028 billion, an increase of 15.76% and 14.43% month on month. The export of clothing reached US $15.199 billion, an increase of 24.93% and 34.12% month on month.
